What happened at Singapore International Water Week 2022?

Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2022 returned as a physical conference between 17 and 21 April at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The event observed a turnout of 15,000 physical attendees, bringing thought leaders, experts and practitioners from governments, utilities, academia and industry together to share and co-create innovative solutions to meet with pressing urban water challenges globally.

Organised by PUB, Singapore’s national water agency, SIWW will cover all aspects of the urban water cycle reflective of current trends and issues in and around the water sector. Critical to shaping the future of water, emerging themes such as digital water, resource recovery and climate resilience will continue to be featured at SIWW.

Samlilab had the opportunity to present on our technology "Toxic Metals Removal for Turning Solid Waste into Construction Materials" under NUS Environmental Research Institute booth, covering on upcycling of recovered heavy metals as electrodes for hydrogen production and solid waste as construction materials with high mechanical properties. The technology was developed from a funded project supported by NEA.

The 3rd Water Technology Roadshow featuring “Water Quality and Health” technologies took place on 20 April 2022 and our final-year PhD student, Ee Liang Ying, presented on topic titled "What if we could together trace chemical and biological contaminants in water systems in real-time?" based on our patented molecularly imprinted polymer technology. The technology was developed from a funded project supported by PUB.

We are happy to celebrate that Ee Liang Ying was awarded the Best Student Poster Award (Runner-up) for his research project on "3D Printing of Anti-fouling Nanocellulose Desalination Membrane". He also served as the Young Water Professionals (YWP) rapporteur at the SIWW 2022 conference, co-chairing thematic session on water treatment technologies with water industry experts.
