NUS Environmental Research Institute (NERI) Seminar by Dr. Ng Bao Hui

Dr. Bao Hui Ng, Research Fellow at NERI and key member of Prof Sam Li's research group, delved into the realm of metabolomics and the emerging field of glycomics to address existing gaps in asthma diagnosis. Her research employs a cutting-edge multi-platform metabolomics approach, combined with glycomics, revealing promising markers for asthma in serum and sputum samples.

Notably, the study underscores the potential of sputum as a valuable biomarker source. Beyond being minimally invasive to patients, it provides an effective tool for asthma diagnosis. The identified biological pathways through this research provide clinicians with crucial insights, enhancing their understanding of the disease for more informed treatment and control strategies.

Dr. Ng is looking at fostering collaborations with partners to further refine and establish this methodology, paving the way for its translation into clinical practice.
